What a great day we had! We spent the morning doing lots of fun activities. In the afternoon we went for an explore around the village. Thank you to our two parent helpers - we had a fantastic time exploring the village with you!
It was a close race but the Big Bad Wolf pulled through to win the Fairy Tale Election. Some say it was the promise of stronger houses, but others think it was all about personality politics!
There was a strong voter turnout and electoral officers were kept very busy sorting and counting votes. It was a big job but by around 2pm they had a result!
As the new primeminister of Far Far Away, the Big Bad Wolf will have to work hard to make all the fairy tale characters happy. Some say he will never make friends with the 3rd little pig who lives in a brick house and feels that his house is strong enough already.
The Final Results:
1st The Big Bad Wolf (152 votes)
2nd Rapunzel (129 votes)
3rd The Woodcutter (68 votes)
4th Little Red Riding Hood (56 votes)
On Friday the 25th of November Room 9 will be running the Fairy Tale Elections. We have four very promising candidates from the land of Far Far Away and voting will be open to anyone under the age of 18. Candidate statements, posters and voting papers will be coming out in the next two weeks!
For those of you who are over 18 and so are not able to vote in the Fairy Tale Elections, we recommend you try the New Zealand General Election which is for people over 18 years and will take place the next day. We can't promise the candidates will be quite as exciting, but we hear that you might get a sticker if you vote!
Today Room 9 ran the school assembly. We spoke into the microphone to tell people what was happening next. We also sang two of our favourite songs -
School is Number One and
Bad Hair Day. We had lots of fun and Miss Cotman, Mrs Mason and our parents were so proud of us!
This week we are starting to learn about structures. Most of us don't really know what a structure is, but Miss Cotman has been showing us lots of short movie clips of structures being built. Today we watched some children building the tallest Lego tower in the world. Miss Cotman challenged us to build our own tower, but we were only allowed one piece of paper and one glue stick each. We had to think really hard of ways to make our towers stand up by themselves!
Dads, Grandads, Uncles and friends came to school to have a special bacon sandwich for breakfast. They then came and looked at what we have been doing in our classrooms. We loved having so many visitors and we hope you loved your bacon butties!
Today was Daffodil Day. We brought a gold coin to school to get a daffodil pin or a sticker. The money that we gave will go to help people who are sick with cancer.
Lollipop the Clown came to talk to us about what his job is like.
Lollipop showed us how he put on his clown make-up.
Lollipop showed us his clown bag and clown clothes.
So this is what you have to do to be a clown!

Our scone picnic!
Cutting the scone dough into 20 pieces.
The ingredients we needed to make the scones.
Watching the butter melt in the hot water.
Today we made playdough because we are learning about the job of a chef. We learnt about ingredients and measuring the right amount. Our playdough was red and green. At the end we played with it!
JC wrote a letter to the Rescue Helicopter Trust to find out about being a helicopter pilot when she grows up. Darryl sent Miss Cotman an email asking whether he could visit us.Today Darryl came! Darryl showed us his life jacket. It has a special string with beads that you pull to blow up the life jacket. SS got to wear Darryl's overalls, life jacket and the helmet. It was funny because the clothes were too big! Darryl let all of us try on his helmet. Thank you for coming to visit us Darryl! The children think that you have an awesome job!
For those of you who wonder what Happy Hour in Room 9 looks like!
We are learning about different occupations. Today we tried to think of as many different jobs as we could and sorted them by the letter of the alphabet that they started with.
On Friday we posted some of our letters that we have been writing. We are researching our future jobs and have written letters to people and organisations to find out more. We are hopeful that some people might reply to us!
After morning tea we went to the hall to listen to Fireman Matt talk to us about fire safety. We learnt what to do if there is a fire. Then we got to look inside a real fire truck. The firemen helped us climb up inside. It was fun!
Today the Police Eagle helicopter visited our school. We were so excited when it flew over our school field. It was very loud and it made lots of wind blow everywhere. This was such a cool day at school!
Today Kelly Sports came to our school. We went onto the field and learnt some soccer and rugby skills. It was lots of fun!
Yum yum yum! Hot Cross buns! Room 10 made so many that they decided to share them with us. Thank you Room 10. We loved trying something new!
Today Miss Crosland read us a story about a soldier in the war and his pet chicken. It was called "The Bantam and the Soldier". Afterwards we talked about ANZAC day when we remember soldiers who have died. ANZAC day is on the 25th of April.
Mr T is visiting Room 9 to look at our amazing stories!
On Friday we had a fun afternoon of activities with our friends in Room 10. There was a playdough table, sand table, a painting easel, big boxes of blocks and there was also chalk and water to paint with. We had so much fun sharing and playing with our friends in Room 10.
